13th edition of the 5K schools celebration, a huge success

Virtual for the second year in a row, Celebrate Schools’ 13th Annual Monster Mad Dash 5K Walk / Run was a resounding success.

Last week, more than 1,300 students, teachers, families and pets walked, ran, rolled or made their way through their own trails to raise funds for programs benefiting the District Foundation. Edmonds School.

This year’s event is expected to raise over $ 80,000 to help students, families and educators in the Edmonds School District in the areas of health and wellness, academic enrichment and preparation. to career and university.

“Celebrate Schools’ Monster Mad Dash is so important to our community,” said Deborah Brandi, Executive Director of the Foundation for Edmonds School District. “It’s a great way to have fun and raise money for important programs and schools. I am very grateful to our participants and our sponsors.

Every day during Spirit 5K week a new event motivated runners to reach the finish line. This includes a special podcast with KXA-KRKO host Stitch Mitchell and City Council member Shannon Sessions, as well as a curated playlist and the annual doggie parade and costume contest.

The groups from Lynnwood, Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale High School fought for first place in the Battle of the Bands, seeing Meadowdale winning by a landslide. Cheerleaders from across the district put their talents to work to encourage participants and give them school spirit throughout the week.

This year, Sherwood Elementary toppled defending seven-year-old champion, Lynndale Elementary, to place first for most registered participants with 452. Lynndale placed second this year with 366 registered participants.
