Kurtz receives Hall of Fame honor

North Idaho College’s Accreditation Liaison Officer and Acting Director of Planning and Effectiveness, Dr. Steve Kurtz was inducted this month into the Missouri Community College Association Hall of Fame.

Prior to coming to North Idaho College in 2019, Kurtz served as president of Mineral Area College in Missouri from 2007 to 2019. The award recognizes years of service and accomplishments, including his work with the Missouri Legislature.

Kurtz received the Hall of Fame award at the MCCA’s annual convention November 10-12 in Branson, Missouri.

Blackston receives FAST designation

North Idaho College Assistant Professor Rob Blackston was awarded the Association of Surgical Technologists (FAST) Fellowship at the association’s annual conference earlier this year.

The FAST designation is awarded to recognize individuals who have upheld the highest professional, ethical and moral standards and traditions of the profession of surgical technology, and whose professional activity has been dedicated to the advancement of the profession towards l ‘improvement of the quality of care for surgical patients.

Blackston is the NIC Surgical Technology Program Director.

American Oncology Network, LLC and Summit Cancer Centers welcome Jing Li Huang, MD

The team of nine medical, surgical and radiation oncologists from Summit Cancer Centers (Summit) welcomes Dr. Jing Li Huang to the community oncology practice. Summit, a partner of the American Oncology Network, LLC (AON), has eight sites, serving patients in eastern Washington and Idaho.

Dr. Huang sees patients in the communities of Spokane Valley and Post Falls. She is certified in General Surgery and eligible in Complex Surgical Oncology. She received her medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, after which she completed her residency in General Surgery at the University of Minnesota and specialized training in Complex Surgical Oncology from Roswell Park. Dr Huang is proficient in the most advanced treatments, including minimally invasive cancer surgery using the da Vinci robot-assisted surgical system.

Summit Medical Oncologist Arvind Chaudhry, MD, Ph.D. said, “We continue to add physicians to meet our high standards of providing the best in oncology care. Dr Huang is experienced in complex cancer surgeries with a particular interest in cancers that most commonly affect women, including breast and soft tissue sarcomas.

AON President and Director of Development, Brad Prechtl, MBA, said, “Dr. Huang joining the Summit team shows his commitment to improving care. Thanks to her in-depth training, she is able to offer patients multidisciplinary care for the constantly evolving field of oncology care.

With the addition of Dr Huang, the Summit team now includes three oncological surgeons, helping to ensure their patients have access to exceptional cancer care and treatment close to where they live.
