The CDA Foundation is accepting applications through March 31 for the Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni Faculty Award, which recognizes individuals who contribute to the scholarly and creative endeavors of California dental students.

The late Dr. Arthur A. Dugoni championed a “humanistic” approach to student-centered, caring dentistry that has become a national model in dental education. A renowned leader in dental education, Dugoni served as Dean of the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry for 28 years, from 1978 to 2006.

In addition to his decades of inspiring countless dental students, residents, faculty and staff in his role as an educator, Dugoni has also offered his leadership and expertise to his dental colleagues in California and around the world. He has served as president of the California Dental Association, American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, and American Board of Orthodontics.

At the time of his death, Dugoni was one of 30 living members worldwide of the FDI World Dental Federation Honor Roll. He has received many other distinguished awards in recognition of his research and service to the field of dentistry, including the Distinguished Service Award from the American Dental Association and the American Dental Education Association (2000) and the Medal of honor of Ellis Island (2008).
