The Sound of Music, a perennial favorite of a woman named Maria, graces the stage at the Hughes Performing Arts Center at Ocean City High School August 3-12.

This latest collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein is produced by the Greater Ocean City Theater Company (OCTC) with the soaring musical sounds of the Ocean City Pops Orchestra.

The Sound of Music is considered the most beloved musical in the world. The original Broadway production starred Mary Martin as Maria and won five Tony Awards in 1959, including Best Musical, then made cinematic history with Julie Andrews in the lead role.

The show features delightful songs, an endearing love story set in Austria on the eve of World War II, and one of the most thrilling and inspiring finales ever presented to the theatre.

Come and listen to your favorite songs, “Edelweiss”, “Do-Re-Mi” and of course, “The Sound of Music”.

The Ocean City adaptation is directed by Shannon Agnew, Elizabeth Worley is the choreographer, and Debbie Rolland oversees the musical direction with Jonathan Kreamer serving as the musical’s bandleader.
